PositiveOutcomes Application

Positive Outcomes Charter School (POCS) seeks motivated and curious learners eager to pursue their passions in a real-world setting. POCS students take ownership of their learning and develop academic skills by exploring various interests, including but not limited to medicine, law, business, art, fashion, music, and education.  There are no limits to what students can explore.

At POCS, our goal is to inspire students to become life-long learners.  We aim to empower students to take charge of their learning to gain the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed beyond high school.

We use a multi-faceted educational model that works best when students are motivated and accountable for their learning.  We have four overall expectations for each student.  These expectations are that students become self-reliant, become lifelong learners, contribute to their communities and that they always have integrity.

For the Upper School (10th, 11th, and 12th grade) students, the Internship program, Learning Through Interests, provides a vehicle for connecting real-world learning to curriculum.  At POCS, we utilize the internship and mentor relationship to create a full circle of learning through project-based work.

For the Lower School (7th, 8th, and 9th grade) students, our community-based learning programs provide opportunities for out-of-the-classroom real-world learning.  Our Lower School spends time developing, planning, and executing community service projects each week.

At POCS, we enroll families.  We look for those with a community spirit, an appreciation for cultural diversity, a willingness to build relationships based on trust, and those who will enrich life within our school environment.  Parents and guardians are an integral part of our schools; therefore, we offer you the opportunity to attend an open house for a closer look.

Thank you in advance for applying to POCS, and we encourage you to explore real-world learning with us.

The 2024-2025 school year application period will begin on November 6, 2023.  The application period will continue until all open spots have been filled.

We currently estimate that there will only be 20 openings for next year.  Parents are encouraged to apply as soon as possible to ensure the greatest possibility of enrollment.  We can only review completed applications.  It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to ensure that copies of all required documents are forwarded to Positive Outcomes Charter School.

After all, openings are filled, we only place students on an active waiting list for the current academic year.  Those who wish to be placed on a waiting list for the next academic year must re-apply.

The mission of Positive Outcomes Charter School is to provide an opportunity for children to learn in a safe, caring, respectful environment where their individuality is valued and their individual needs are addressed. Our school challenges each student in every course by delivering instruction appropriately suited to individual needs.  Our school is not the ideal placement for all students.  The application process aims to determine if our school meets the student's needs and can lead to a positive outcome.

Admission to Positive Outcomes Charter School requires four steps.  We require a completed State of Delaware Standard Application for Education Options form.  In addition, we require a completed supplemental application packet, all required documents submitted, and a student and parent interview.  Once all required information has been received, the school staff will schedule an interview.  Interviews will not be scheduled without a completed application packet.  The admissions committee will send a notification letter shortly following the interview and after the lottery (if required).  The student may be accepted for the 2024-2025 school year, placed on a waiting list for the 2024-2025 school year, or not accepted.
